Projects and Already, More Interesting Things Get Done

I mentioned that I have several projects going. What are those?

  1. Homeschooling: I have done this for 13 years.
  2. Software Development: This hobby turned into a tiny company at the beginning of last summer. I develop mobile applications for Android and iOS. No, I don't make apps that focus on engagement, advertising, or collecting data.
  3. School: At the beginning of the pandemic, I decided to go back to school for fun. I usually only take one class at a time, sometimes only one a year. I mainly take classes in the humanities. No, the humanities haven't been politicized in any of the classes I have taken.
  4. Photography: This year I started an Instagram account of travel photography. I do not post pictures of myself. I don't really understand that type of account. The travel photography account has about 1,500 followers. I stopped working on it temporarily to focus on my software development company.
  5. Japanese: My husband and I are learning Japanese. In the future, we think we might want to start living in Japan for about 90 days of the year.
  6. Math: I'm interested in learning advanced mathematics. It's been a while, so I'm having to start back a bit to review.
  7. Reading: I read about 60-100 books a year. My split is usually about 50-50 between fiction and non-fiction. I generally don't read modern pop fiction, unless one of the book clubs I'm in picks it, and then I only read it if it's actually good.
  8. Writing: I write poetry and short stories, mostly sci-fi.
  9. The Gym: I mostly do HIIT and lift weights.

With social media off of my phone, I've already been able to focus more on my reading and my current humanities class on Kafka. While waiting for one child's activity to end this morning, I read and took notes on some supplementary Kafka material. With social media still on my phone, I would have been likely to completely waste that time with forgettable scrolling.
