Parallel Between the Pali Canon and Luke

I was reading In the Buddha's Words, An Anthology of Discourses from the Pali Canon, translated and edited by Bhikkhu Bodhi, and I came across an interesting passage calling for a radical love of one's enemies.

In short, it said that if someone were taken by bandits, and the bandits cut off the person's hands and feet, if that person's heart was not filled with loving kindness for the bandits cutting off his hands and feet, he would not be following the Buddha's teachings.

That reminded me of this passage from the Bible (Luke 23:33-34):

And when they came to the place that is called The Skull, there they crucified him, and the criminals, one on his right and one on his left. And Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.”
