Others Embracing Digital Minimalism
A post about giving up Reddit.
A post by someone who quit social media two years ago.
A post by someone going much further into digital minimalism.
It's interesting to see what types of social media attract different people. For example, in the first two posts above, the writers especially struggle with Reddit and Instagram respectively. I've never felt any temptation to spend time scrolling through either of those, and I have never scrolled short-form videos, which the author of the second post found particularly distracting.
(If you haven't read my initial post, my social media obsessions of choice were Facebook and Twitter. I really like interesting articles. Finding links to interesting articles was like getting food pellets in a Skinner box, and I was tired of being the rat. Plus, all of the irrationality on these platforms was making me dislike people. In real life, non-online life, I love people. They're the best.)
I wonder if usage and/or method of usage of different platforms correlates with certain personality traits.
It's fun to live vicariously through the third post. I've often thought it would be nice to switch to a dumb phone, but I can't because there's a medical app with alerts that I need on my phone for a family member. No complaints though. Nothing but grateful thankfulness for the current state of medical technology. (We live in the very best time.) Still, it's neat to see how the truly digitally minimal live.
