Can't Wait for Lab-Grown Meat

I find it strange that some places are banning lab-grown meat. But then, I don't carry any assumptions that "natural" is "better," and, in fact, that assumption seems incredibly bizarre to me. Nature is full of poisons and carcinogens; it is not benevolent.

I'm excited about lab-grown meat because I would prefer not to eat meat. I don't have a moral objection to eating meat in general, but I don't like the way some farm animals are treated, and I do like animals (from a distance) and would prefer not to eat them.

Giving up meat is hard. If one tolerates soy, giving up meat is easier, but for those who don't tolerate soy, meat is such an easy, tasty way to get protein that it's difficult to replace. Also, family members differ in their opinions about eating meat, so it can be hard to please everyone.

Lab-grown meat, however, seems to offer an easy solution: don't eat animals and don't give up meat. I can't wait for lab-grown meat to become widely available. It seems likely that it could eventually be cheaper than animal meat by lowering space requirements and overhead costs as lab growing processes become increasingly efficient.

Someday, we are likely to look back and wonder at our ancestors who raised and tended billions of animals to kill and eat them.
